Stamp Duty in an unfortunate but necessary evil you must be aware of when buying a property in the UK -it’s not just the seller who makes money when you buy a house! The Government gains too – somewhere in the region of £5 billion a year is received in the form of stamp duty. From 3rd September 2008, you have been obliged to pay if your chosen property costs more than £175,000, an increase from the previous threshhold of £125,000. This calculator will work out just how much you will pay.
